Valley School Stories

WELCOME TO HAWAII

First Graders welcomed their families and peers to Hawaii today!

The class spent several weeks studying types of communities: urban, suburban, and rural.  Each year, the community project features a different theme, and this year, Hawaii was chosen due to the tragic wildfires that recently occurred in Maui.

The students studied Hawaiian natural resources, transportation, tourism, competitive pricing, ecosystems, volcanoes, hula dancing, & animals.  Student-led tours were the project's highlight, as the students were proud to demonstrate their understanding of specific community characteristics.    Furthermore,  they programmed Ozobots to travel famous Hawaiian roads like the Road to Hana.  First Graders even discovered numerous similarities between Hawaiian and our Valley Core Values!
