Ruth Barton

Embrace change. The world around us is moving quickly; learning to be flexible and growing with change has been one of the most beneficial lessons for me. 

I was born and raised in southwest Pennsylvania and attended the California University of Pennsylvania. After earning bachelor’s degrees in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, I married my college sweetheart, Todd, and moved to Delaware to be near the beach and teach first grade for the Red Clay School District. 

 

I joined the Valley School community in 2017 and now teach Lower School Technology. I enjoy the challenge of communicating complex systems and topics to young children. Distilling ideas to their fundamentals enables me to be creative every day. It’s inspiring to be witness to my students’ critical thinking and innovative problem-solving.

 

Outside of school, it is my great joy to watch my four children grow, learn, and become good people. When I’m not cheering on one of my kid’s sports teams, I’m rooting for the Steelers. In addition to our shared enthusiasm for Pittsburgh football, our family loves Marvel movies and spending time together swimming, kayaking, going to theme parks, and taking morning walks at Twin Lakes.
